LOCATION: New York, NY – Manhattan

HOURS: 9:00AM – 5:00PM

THE ORGANIZATION: International Law Firm

SUMMARY:  The CLE (Continuing Legal Education) Coordinator will work with the CLE Assistant and legal Learning & Development (L&D) team in the administration of the Firm’s CLE programs by tracking attendance at CLE seminars, issuing Certificates of Attendance to attorneys, and answering attorney questions regarding CLE requirements and their compliance.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Track attorney CLE requirements, including inputting attendance at CLE seminars and generating CLE certificates of attendance for attorneys

  • Handle training program administration for various practice groups, including sending invitations, administering sign-in sheets and surveys

  • Supply information to attorneys and professional staff on New York State mandatory CLE Rules and Regulations and the requirements to make seminars eligible for NYS CLE credit

  • Support various practice groups with coordinating conference rooms, catering, and audio/visual aspects for training programs

  • Plan off-site client CLE seminars, both in New York and outside of New York, and coordinate accreditation of those seminars

  • Maintain department documents, such as CLE attendance sheets, invitations and surveys, to maintain compliance with New York CLE Board’s Accredited Provider requirements

  • Monitor weekly attorney arrivals and ensure that all relevant department files are updated to reflect status and developmental needs of current attorneys

  • Monitor attorney departures and transfers to update attorneys on their CLE requirements and certification status, and remind attorneys to renew law licenses as necessary

  • Responsible for the creation of statistical reports for the New York State CLE Board and in the preparation of the year-end report for the CLE Board

  • Publicize CLE and other training opportunities (both internal and external), and improve information sharing among global offices by liaising with training contacts in other offices

  • Assist in the preparation of training program materials and ensure that they are updated on the Firm’s online resources

  • General work and assistance on legal L&D ad-hoc projects

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Experience with CLE compliance in New York

  • Excellent interpersonal, client service, and written and verbal communication skills

  • Exercise good judgment, excellent organization skills, and strong attention to detail

  • Able to work independently as well as with a team; push projects forward and meet deadlines

  • Experience with Micron CE Manager preferred

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

SUMMARY: This position is responsible for coordinating a full range of professional development and staffing activities for a given practice area (or areas). Working within the Global Attorney Development team. The Professional Development Director collaborates with the Practice Leader(s), Staffing Partner(s) and Attorney Development Partner(s) to ensure successful implementation of the Firm's professional development objectives at the practice level.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Build trust and credibility with partners

  • Develop a professional relationship with each associate, including an in-depth understanding of professional aspirations, experiences, strengths, development needs, and relevant personal circumstances

  • Monitor associate development to ensure associates are progressing along the practice area's desired developmental trajectory and follow-up on development plans

  • Recommend the Firm's career resources as appropriate, and ensure forward progress on exit strategies

  • Assist in preparation of review messages and performance summaries; coordinate/attend associate and counsel review meetings and facilitate evaluation processes for the practice with the Attorney Development team

  • Coordinate with Hiring Team on new hires, Summer Program, Rotating Associates (if applicable), and mentor program

  • Work with the Attorney Development Training Team in developing practice area specific programs, arrange training program logistics and ensure participation in all required CLE programs

  • Participate in defining the overall training agenda for practice area and coordinate training to meet identified development needs

  • Work with staffing partner to ensure that each attorney is fully utilized within their area, having the opportunity to work on a variety of matters and with a variety of partners, while balancing development opportunities with client needs

  • Ensure consistency of experiences and equitable distribution of assignments across the practice area. Monitor utilization and intervene as appropriate

  • Track vacation schedules to ensure that plans are in place for coverage

  • Cull and synthesize information for practice leader, including missing time, stress test alerts, status of reviews, and distribution of workload

  • Manage information flow in the required systems and policy compliance, e.g., bar admission status updates, mentor assignments, time recording compliance

  • Work on a variety of ad hoc projects as needed

  • Assist with exit interviews for departing associates

  • Oversee CLE compliance and Bar Admissions function, including supervising the CLE Senior Coordinator and CLE Assistant

  • Assist with annual “Firm Update” meeting content development and execution

  • Assist with overseeing the planning and content of annual Departmental Overviews and related events

  • Act as attorney contact for Leave of Absence and Flex-time related responsibilities, including being the primary interface with associates on individual questions and logistics and reintegration

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • 4 to 5+ years of professional development leadership experience at a professional services firm

  • Bachelor's Degree; JD and prior professional coaching/counseling experience a plus

  • Knowledge of CLE rules

  • Strong interest and experience in professional development and optimizing professional development programs in a noted global law firm. 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)

  • Strong influencing capabilities and sound judgment

  • Proven project management skills and ability to multitask

  • A non-hierarchical approach; the flexibility and ability to build consensus

  • Ability to adhere to the highest process standards and stand firm on decisions

  • Ability to work under pressure and conflicting circumstances

  • Strong integrity, maturity, and fairness in dealing with people and confidential information

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement annual associate review process for associates

  • Solicit feedback from senior lawyers, including via in-person discussion sessions

  • Draft associate review documents based upon feedback received as well as the coordinator’s own assessment of the associate’s performance

  • Prepare, update and analyze charts on status of annual associate reviews

  • Use own discretion to determine whether certain associates would benefit from a mid-year review (and implement such a review) as needed

  • Develop and implement professional developments

  • Exercise independent discretion to develop and implement professional development plans for individual associate attorneys

  • Use independent judgment to identify associate attorneys who would benefit from individualized “soft skills” training

  • Create monthly staffing reports to determine associates’ individual workflow capacities, and flag potential staffing issues or opportunities

  • Facilitate regular professional development meetings with senior lawyers, in connection with associate development and staffing discussions. Develop consensus around takeaways and follow up on issues raised

  • Partner with attorneys in assigned practice groups to develop tailored practice group mentoring, training and development initiatives

  • Select Mentoring Committee members in connection with new associate mentor programs

  • Organize and facilitate quarterly mentor debriefings to discuss mentor relationships and to craft any potential changes to development plans as a result

  • Develop relationships with associates in order to serve as a resource for questions regarding their individual professional development

  • Liaise with Training and CLE department regarding potential training programs

  • Maintain internal associate records

  • General assistance on ad hoc projects

  • Support senior lawyers globally throughout the arc of their careers

  • Coordinate nomination, integration and evaluation processes, including by soliciting and constructing review feedback and overviews

  • Monitor workflow and performance on ongoing basis, interfacing with partner liaisons and developing action-oriented performance plans where warranted

  • Implement initiatives related to leadership development, morale and engagement

  • Prepare meeting materials for firm management, reporting on performance trends

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree required 

  • 2+ years of Professional Development or HR-related experience in a fast-paced environment.  Law firm experience strongly preferred

  • Must be comfortable working with lawyers at all seniority levels

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel required. Experience with viDesktop preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal and client service skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Good judgment; excellent organization skills and strong attention to detail

  • Flexibility to work longer hours during busier periods

  • Ability to work well independently as well as within a team

  • Candidate must be someone who is proactive, plans ahead, pushes projects forward and meets deadlines
