Legal Assistant | Albany NY Law Firm
Compensation: $45K to $50K to start, based on experience. Full benefits paid by the firm.
Location: Albany, NY - Near Restaurants, Shopping, Entertainment. Firm Parking Spaces
Hours: 9:00am – 5:30pm

Summary: This Legal Assistant will be responsible for supporting a small group of principals in various practice areas daily. In addition to excellent communication skills and a mastery of office skills, this role requires the ability to assume responsibility without direct supervision, take initiative and make decisions within the scope of your assigned authority.

Key Responsibilities

Able to provide high-level administrative support to partner, associate and others as needed

Prepare various legal documents including client communication responses, discovery requests, subpoenas and FOIL requests

Greet clients and visitors; respond to phone calls; transmit messages accurately and promptly

Review, organize and catalog discovery materials

Maintain calendars and schedule appointments, meetings and conference calls

Able to operate office equipment and maintain supply inventory with vendors

Maintain an orderly appearance to your office, including reception, conference room, and pantry should you see anything out of place. Everyone does this.

Prepare check requests, expense reimbursement forms, and client/matter forms; handle petty cash

Able to scan, profile, and retrieve documents across multiple platforms, once you know the firm's software.

Assume additional responsibilities when required to support attorneys during Federal, criminal and civil trials.

Some of the trials you will be involved with are "High-Profile" in the press. Must be able to maintain highly confidential information and not discuss with family or friends.
Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree
-
1 year of combined legal experience that can be a combination of "work experience" and or "internships"

Ability to think critically and analytically in a pressured environment, during trials

Ability to maintain confidential information and work on high-profile cases

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Ability to move throughout the office, as needed, to perform essential duties

Ability to prioritize and coordinate work "independently and as a team member"

Ability to effectively multi-task, meet deadlines, and excel in a "friendly & professional" team atmosphere that every employee enjoys.

Ability to type accurately and check spelling. Intermediate skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. LexisNexis A+ - Will train.
